Students studying abroad with SAI have the option in some locations of participating in unpaid internships under the supervision of an experienced professional. An internship allows you to observe and participate in the day-to-day activities of local businesses and organizations. Internships are available part-time as a supplement to your study (for-credit and non-credit options available), or full-time as a stand-alone program in Barcelona. SAI staff will work with you and your home university to arrange your internship placement based on your academic major, interests, career goals, knowledge, and skills.
Engaging in an internship allows you to deepen your interaction with the host culture, develop relationships beyond the classroom, enhance your professional network and build your resume. By participating in an internship abroad, you can set yourself apart from your peers with a demonstrated ability to work across cultures.
“Internships (are) the most important thing that employers look for when evaluating a recent college graduate… More important than where they went to college, the major they pursued, and even their grade point average.” – Dan Berrett, The Chronicle of Higher Education, 2013
