Tell us why you chose to study abroad.
I chose to study abroad to become immersed in another culture. The prospect of living with a family really appealed to me, and I also wanted to become more fluent in Italian. My mom studied abroad in college, so her stories from her own experience inspired me to participate in a year abroad, too.
Tell us about your school, major, interests, clubs (you in a nutshell).
I love my home college in the U.S. so, so much. I go to the College of William & Mary, where the majority of students are super nerds, and we all love each other for that. I am majoring in English and am minoring in Italian. This past year, I was secretary of my Women’s Chorus, treasurer of the college’s Harry Potter club, and volunteered twice a week with youth serving time in a juvenile detention facility. In my free time, I love to read, eat, and watch a ton of Netflix.
What are you most excited about re. studying abroad?
I am most excited to try new things, meet new people, and learn another language in the place where it is actually spoken. I am so happy that I can live with a host family, and I hope they can become my home away from home. I am also looking forward to the amazing Italian food I’ll get my hands on!
What are you most nervous about re. studying abroad?
I am very nervous about living so far away from home for such a long period of time. My family is really close, so it will be a big adjustment. I am also nervous about getting around before I feel super confidant with my Italian. It will all be challenging at times, but I’ll be ok!
What are three goals that you would like to achieve/accomplish while abroad?
While I’m abroad I hope to have experiences out of my comfort zone, become a little more extroverted, and learn how to cook things other than instant macaroni and toast.
