We handed over our Instagram to a few students this month and asked them to take us through their day in their host city. This is Robert’s (Bobby) day in Paris (October 13, 2015).
Bonjour everyone! My name is Bobby Caruso and today I’ll be taking over the SAI Instagram. This semester my dreams are coming true by studying abroad in Paris with SAI. I’ve been here since late August, so I’m excited to show you around today. A little bit about me: I’m a senior journalism major at Western New England University and I am from Long Island, New York. This photo was taken during Paris Fashion Week when a few of us from SAI went celeb-spotting and stopped at the Louvre for a photo op!
Ma chambre! Here’s a photo of my room! I live with two other guys in the SAI program, and we live in a very typical Parisian apartment not far from the metro which is everything I wanted. I have my own room while my roommates share one. Thanks to Comforts of Home, the rooms came furnished with everything I could have needed.
En route to class I stopped for a quick café crème et un pan au chocolat. Très délicieux! One of the best parts about being in Paris is just sitting in a café for hours. Pro-Tip: There’s an Office Depot across the street which is one of the only places to find college-ruled notebooks.
Le jolie vue du mon appartement.
I live in the 14th arrondissement of Paris in the Alèsia area. It is a very residential area which is nice because it feels more authentic and less touristy. Things are generally cheaper here than in the 7th or 8th (Near the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe). There’s a great mix of reminders of home (Starbucks, McDonalds, KFC) and amazing cafés and restaurants nearby. I also have a favorite boulangerie I will try to visit later today.
Le meilleure personne! This is Jenn, Program Coordinator in Paris. In between handling all our questions and concerns, she’s my go-to French tutor. She’s coordinated all our trips and excursions with SAI and is the best resource for things to do in Paris and all of Europe.
Cliché? Peut-être. In my break between classes, it was only a short walk to grab my favorite to-go lunch from “Nelly Julien” and eat in the #champdemars with a friend.
Voilà! Night class is over and I stopped for a quick selfie with some of my closest friends from SAI: Shayna and Andra. We just left Media Sociology and it’s time to go back to the 14th!
Une plus dessert. One of the most charming aspects of Paris is the boulangeries and pâtisseries on nearly every corner. I stopped for #macarons even if they weren’t from my favorite in Paris. Delicious either way! This time I went for a Crème de marron flavor.
Déjà vu? This is a #throwbackphoto from our trip earlier this month to Béziers, a beautiful area in the south of France. The best part is that it was included in the SAI program and we had a fun filled weekend including two wine tastings, a bull fighting museum, and more!
It’s been amazing showing you all a day of my life in Paris. I may be a little biased, but it really is the most beautiful place in the world and without SAI I wouldn’t have the chance to experience the city in the same way. In this photo from this weekend you can see the sun setting on the Seine, the body of water that divides Paris in two. Until next time!
