Faculty leaders who complete a minimum of two Faculty-Led Programs (FLP) with SAI are invited to apply for the SAI Faculty Leaders Award. The award is granted annually for one SAI location (Italy, Spain, France). In some instances, two awards are granted, depending on the program. The purpose of the award is to provide opportunities for faculty leaders to enhance their knowledge of a cultural region, identify teaching strategies that integrate global experiences with real world learning, and develop course content for a future faculty-led program with SAI.
The award provides an extension of time pre FLP or post FLP, up to 7 nights lodging with breakfast, and in-country transportation that is arranged and approved through SAI. Additional costs will apply for family or friends who accompany the award recipient. Faculty may opt to stay for longer periods at their own expense.
Application
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and the Award will be announced annually. The application consists of a letter of intent from the faculty member and curriculum vitae. The letter of intent should include the faculty member’s discipline, prior SAI faculty-led courses and program dates, proposed curriculum enhancement/ research activities in a designated SAI location, preferred travel dates, and description of how the award activities will enrich the faculty’s professional knowledge and experience, as well as contribute to a future SAI faculty-led program.
Criteria for selection include demonstration of the faculty’s interest in pursuing activities that develop or expand breadth and depth of knowledge regarding Italy, France or Spain; and description of how the award will contribute to innovative teaching strategies and curriculum development. The awardee is expected to submit travel plans within 30 days of notification of the award, along with a blog related to planning and developing a faculty-led program. It is expected that the awardee will provide SAI with a reflection statement on their experiences while abroad.
