Tell us why you chose to study abroad.
I chose to study abroad in order to experience another culture. I know that once college is over I am probably never going to have the opportunity to live in another country for 3-4 months. A few friends of mine have studied abroad and absolutely loved it. Hearing about their experiences intrigued me into looking into study abroad programs. I chose to study in Italy because I really wanted to learn a second language and since I took Italian in high school I felt Florence was the best choice. I have never been outside of the U.S. and decided that merely traveling to other destinations would not suffice my adventurous desires. I want to live like a local in another country.

Tell us about your school, major, interests, clubs (you in a nutshell).
I am a junior at the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey studying Hospitality and Tourism Management. I am the Vice President of Stockton’s Disney Association. I had the wonderful opportunity to work for the Walt Disney World Resort on two different internships and hope to move there once I am finished school. I live in Bellmawr, a small town in South Jersey and commute to Stockton. I live at home with my dad, two sisters, and my dog, Mickey. Some of my interests are traveling, going to the beach, any and all food, and trying new things.

What are you most excited about re. studying abroad?
I am most excited about traveling around Europe and the food of course. Along with different places in Italy, I hope to travel to France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, and Barcelona. I am also excited to meet tons of new people and to see the different works of art Italy has to offer.

What are you most nervous about re. studying abroad?
I am most nervous about getting around in Europe; I have no sense of direction! Although I have some experience with the Italian language, I am still worried about the language barrier. I will be brushing up on my Italian and studying some maps before my trip abroad!

What are three goals that you would like to achieve/accomplish while abroad?
My three goals are to become fluent in the Italian language, network, and travel to at least three other countries in Europe. I really just absorb and enjoy every moment in Italy and see as much as possible.

Know Someone Who Would Be Interested?

  1. Hi Rachel-we are looking for advice on Florence from a fellow NJ girl :) My daughter goes to Rowan University and will be there for the SAI course. Sounds like you are very busy at Stockton, but would look forward to hearing from you. Thanks
