Motivated SAI students can apply to complete an internship with JCU as part of their academic coursework in the semester.
JCU manages strong relationships with leading multinational corporations, embassies, media and international organizations in Rome, and provides exclusive internship in partnership with them. JCU internships are offered on the basis of merit and compatibility with the host organization, and can be completed for 3 credits. Please bear in mind that internships are highly competitive and there is no guarantee of placement. The unpaid part-time internships generally average 100 – 150 hours in total, to be distributed over the term. While JCU helps to connect students with organizations, the internship hosts evaluate resumes, select candidates to interview, and ultimately choose which candidates they hire as interns. All internship details are arranged with the host organization.
Internships are available in the following areas:
- Art History
- Business and Finance
- Communication, Journalism and Media
- Health and Medical Services
- Law
- Library Services
- Marketing
- Music and Theater
- Political Science and International Relations
In order to participate in a semester internship students must meet the following criteria:
- At least Junior standing
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
- Italian language not required, but can help widen the selection field
Internship requirements include:
- 10 hours of in-class instruction
- A minimum of 120 hours in the semester and 100 hours in the summer of work, verified by JCU
- Daily internship log
- In-depth interview with the internship sponsor or organization
- A 2,500 to 3,500 word “White Paper” presenting a position or solution to a problem encountered by the employer
How to Apply
To apply for an internship, students must apply to the “semester with internship” program and select the internship course when completing course registration through the JCU registration portal. Students must be accepted into the JCU program prior to submitting the additional internship materials, which include:
- JCU internship application, sent to you after applying
- Current resume
- Cover letter
Upon receipt of the internship materials, students will be contacted by the JCU internship coordinator to arrange a skype interview.
