Starting a New Adventure

Studying abroad is often described as a life-changing experience, and my semester at Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento, Italy, certainly lived up to that promise. Sorrento was the perfect place for an unforgettable journey of personal growth, learning, and cultural immersion. When I arrived, I was definitely blown away by the stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the cliffs along the coast. During the first day of orientation, I met students from all over the U.S.A and we were all excited to start this adventure together. One of the best parts of my time at Sant’Anna was meeting so many wonderful people including my four roommates that made this experience absolutely one of the best yet.

Weekend Adventures Around Italy

Sorrento’s location made it easy to explore other parts of Italy. One of the great things about studying here was how easy it was to travel around Italy. The train, bus, and ferry systems were convenient and affordable, making weekend trips simple and fun. Weekends were spent visiting the Amalfi Coast, the ruins of Pompeii, and the island of Capri. A short train ride took us to Naples for the best pizza in the world. We also traveled to Rome and Florence to see more of Italy’s beauty.

Savoring Italian Cuisine

One of the best parts of studying abroad in Italy was the food. Italian cuisine is famous worldwide but experiencing it firsthand was amazing. Every meal in Italy was special. Breakfast was usually a tasty pastry and a strong espresso. I loved visiting local bakeries to try their croissants filled with Nutella or jam. Lunch and dinner were all about pasta. From classic spaghetti carbonara to regional dishes like gnocchi, every meal was fresh and delicious. The pasta was always cooked perfectly and served with rich, homemade sauces.

My semester at Sant’Anna Institute in Sorrento was an incredible experience. It gave me lifelong friends and memories that I will never forget. The beauty of the Amalfi Coast the kindness of the locals, and the cultural experiences made this time unforgettable. If you’re thinking about studying abroad, definitely go for it!
